Take a ‘Trip Down De-Nile’ at Unity
Rev. Patty Becker will speak about “A Trip Down De-Nile” at the Unity of Whidbey service on Sunday.
Join Becker as she explores the spiritual faculty of elimination and explains the appropriate use of denial as a prayer practice that can send your life soaring.

‘Hope Has Human Hands’ at UUCWI
At the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island service on Sunday, Rev. Kit Ketcham will speak about her theology and definition of hope, how it has changed over the years, and what she feels we can do to increase a sense of hope in ourselves and others.
The service is at 10 a.m., and all are welcome. Values-based children’s religious exploration classes and childcare will be provided.

Special Gospel coming in Clinton
Ministers Fred Skalitzky and Daniel Knauss will host two gospel meetings at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 7 and Sunday, Nov. 14 at the Clinton Community Hall. Anyone interested is invited.
Moving beyond the dust of creation
The Bible opens with God creating all and making it good. When the mist rises, the notion of good becomes foggy, and people are re-made from dust rather than spiritual good.
Do we have to be stuck in the dusty creation? Jesus healed the sick and raised the dead in opposition to the foggy perceptions of material life. “Shake thyself from the dust,” (Isaiah 52:2).
On Sunday, Nov. 7, the Christian Science service examines “Adam and Fallen Man” in order to understand how to claim our God-given rights to good. “Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust,” (Isaiah 26: 19).
Everyone is welcome at this service, which begins at 10:30 a.m. at 15910 Highway 525, just north of Bayview.
Trinity adult forum looks at simplicity
The next adult forum at St. Augustine’s in-the-Woods Episcopal Church in Freeland is devoted to “ENOUGH: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity.”
Lynda Anderson will summarize and highlight her series on stewardship. The forum will explore what the Bible teaches about financial management.
The purpose of this exercise is to help everyone get off the consumerism treadmill and find the joy and contentment that comes with a simpler and more generous way of living.
After having completed the DVD series the past three Thursday nights, the group will wrap up those discussions with the final installment of the series, and will discuss the themes which were generated in the evening sessions. It is not necessary to have been at the Thursday sessions; the themes will be explored anew.
SWCC will hold Veterans Day service
There will be a special Veterans Day service at 10 a.m. Sunday at South Whidbey Community Church to honor all veterans, with special music by the “Choralaires” of Shoreline, and a message by Pastor Darrell Wenzek titled, “Rights Worth Defending.”
Following morning worship, there will be a program and a free buffet luncheon at 11:45 a.m. at the American Legion Hall, also honoring all active-duty and former armed forces veterans.
Everyone, especially veterans, are welcome at both events.
There will be no adult learning forum Sunday because of the special Veterans Day program.
Also, there is a special breakfast at the Deer Lagoon Grange 8:30 a.m. today for all men and women to come and hear Dr. Bob Stallman speak on “Wisdom and the Way of Salvation,” based on Proverbs, Chapter 2.
Stallman is a popular speaker and is a professor of Bible and Hebrew at Northwest University, as well as adjunct professor of Old Testament at Fuller Theological Seminary.
Steve Hochenedel will be the featured chef. There is no charge for this event, and everyone is welcome.

Celebrate EvenSong at UUCWI next week
During this month’s evening service of song, meditation and readings at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island, the congregation will hear brief excerpts of the theology of Forrest Church, senior minister at All Souls Unitarian Church in New York for nearly 30 years.
All are welcome at this quiet, contemplative, candlelight service accompanied by harp music.
