South Whidbey High School competes in state Poetry Out Loud competition

Hood won the school-wide competition at South Whidbey High School and advanced to the regional Poetry Out Loud competition held Feb. 7, and was one of two winners selected to advance to the state competition.

The event took place from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, March 7 at the Broadway Center for the Performing Arts, Theatre on the Square in Tacoma.

Hood competed as one of 13 finalists during the competition.

There were more than 20,000 students participating in the preceding classroom competitions statewide, according to the release.

The winner of the Washington State Poetry Out Loud competition was Alex Hanesworth, according to the organization’s web site.
