South Whidbey Parks and Recreation District will hold its first public meeting regarding campground development on 35 acres of land adjacent to Community Park at 6 p.m. on March 10.

The location is yet to be determined.

The meeting will be a chance for community members to provide feedback and ask questions of the district as well as the consulting firm tasked with designing the campground, J.A. Brennan Associates Landscape Architects & Planners. Parks Director Doug Coutts said the Seattle-based firm may provide early concept drawings or maps at the meeting as well as possible directions to take with the campground.

In addition to the public meeting, the community can also give feedback on the campground through a survey developed by the district. The survey, which is available online at the district website, www.swparks.org or at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SL56RK9, is meant to gauge the public’s thoughts and opinions on the proposed campground. Surveys can also be submitted on paper, which are available at the district office at 5475 Maxwelton Road.

Written feedback may also be submitted to the district’s board of commissioners and sent to the office address.

“We want community input and this is one at the ways we’re looking of getting it,” Coutts said. “Whatever the community tells us, we want to hear.”

The questions were generated from surveys conducted by similar-type agencies and adapted to the district’s particular situation.

Coutts said that around 30 surveys have been submitted. He hopes to receive a large sample size of a couple hundred surveys in order to accurately gauge the public.

“We’re trying to gauge what the majority wants,” Coutts said.
