This year’s annual St. Augustine’s Trash & Treasure Sale raised $4,800 for island charities.

The Mobile Turkey Unit, Youth Ministry Christian Formation, Hope Therapeutic Riding Program and House of Hope all received checks for $1,200, sale organizers recently announced.

This year’s Trash & Treasure Sale was held May 2 at the church, which is located in Freeland. It’s an annual event and this was its 53rd year, according to Laura Colton, a co-chairwoman of the sale.

“We sell pie for $2, play accordion music; it’s very nostalgic,” Colton said.

The sale is put on largely as a fundraiser for South Whidbey charities and non-profit groups, but it’s also a resource for people with limited means or who “live off the grid,” she said.

“They kind of resupply at the sale,” Colton said.

The church has a master list of non-profit groups and charities, and donations are rotated annually.
