Good Cheer’s intrepid young fundraiser JaNoah Spratt spearheaded another effort on behalf of the food bank during the Fourth of July weekend.

JaNoah, 9, organized members of the Black Belt Club at Tiger Martial Arts in Freeland, and they raised about $1,000 canvassing ferry commuters at the Mukilteo ferry dock this past Saturday.

The group worked in shifts from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., soliciting donations at a table in front of Ivar’s Restaurant and walking between the lines of cars in the ferry holding lanes.

Wendy Barker of Tiger Martial Arts helped supervise the volunteers, who included her son R.J. Others who helped in shifts included Liz, Leah and Rebecca Merrow; Gabe Sherlock and Jonathan Deritis; and Paula and Dustin Scharwat. JaNoah’s parents, Todd and Teresa Spratt, and Jesse Barker also participated.

JaNoah began raising funds for Good Cheer at age 7, selling vegetables from his family garden at a roadside stand near his house.

Since then, his various efforts have raised thousands of dollars for the food bank.
