Santa’s elves have been hard at work at St. Augustine’s in-the-Woods Episcopal Church in Freeland, getting ready for Whidbey’s “last, best” holiday bazaar and gift boutique of the season from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today.

The bazaar will feature an assortment of handmade gifts, jewelry, decorative items and toys, as well as a selection of “treasures” (only slightly used and ready for a new home). Also on sale will be homemade jams, jellies, pies, cookies and other baked goods. Everything will be festively wrapped and ready to give to friends and relations far and near.

One special treasure on sale will be a beautiful Tiffany-style table lamp created by Wren MacLean, a Whidbey stained-glass artist and a longtime St. Augustine’s parishioner.

Santa will take time from his busy schedule to visit the bazaar from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and he has agreed to pose for photos with little ones — whether two- or four-legged. Lunch will also be available during the day, including homemade soup, bread and dessert.

The bazaar is in the undercroft, below the main church building.

St. Augustine’s is in the in middle of a major expansion project which will more than double the size of its fellowship and office space, but the church is still operating normally during the construction. Proceeds from the holiday bazaar will be used to outfit the new kitchen in the church’s parish and community meeting hall.

Parking is available adjacent to the church at 5217 Honeymoon Bay Road in Freeland.
