The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is inviting the public to attend a question-and-answer session about South Whidbey State Park and the Possession Point and Useless Bay state park properties.

The meeting is scheduled for 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 26 at Whidbey Water Services on 5585 Lotto Ave., Freeland.

Visit http://bit.ly/sowhidbeyparkplan for details about the planning project.

In the spring of 2015, tree rot and disease led the state to close overnight usage at the state park for safety concerns. The options for the park include permanently closing the campgrounds for overnight use or thinning affected trees, while potential zoning of Possession Point State Park and 560 acres of tideland in the Useless Bay area could range from classifications of “natural” to “recreational.”

Opportunities for public comment will be available at the meeting, and public comment also may be provided by contacting Parks Planner Randy Kline at 360-902-8632 or randy.kline@parks.wa.gov
