State Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen officially launched her re-election bid today. The move follows her filing last week as a candidate in the 10th Legislative District race for the state Senate.

Haugen said she will host campaign rallies starting Saturday in Coupeville. The following weekend, she will host a rally on Camano Island.

“I’ve worked hard to reflect the values and needs of my community,” Haugen said. “I was raised here and I have children and grandchildren here in the district, giving me a tremendous sense of responsibility to protect local jobs and our rural character for future generations.”

Haugen has served in the Senate since 1992. She said will continue to work on economic development if voters return her for another term.

“With the national economy slowing, it’s critical we continue to promote local investments in job creation,” she said.

Her Whidbey Island rally will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 14 at the Coupeville Rec Hall.

The Camano Island rally is from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 21 at the Camano Senior and Community Center
