The winner in the August primary for Position 3 on the Langley City Council has turned out to be a winner again in the General Election.

Jim Sundberg, currently chairman of the city’s Planning Advisory Board, was leading Robin Adams in the first vote tally on Election Night.

“I think that there’s some really good days ahead for the town of Langley,” Sundberg said. “And I am thankful to the many people that have supported me during the campaign, have helped me running for city council, and I appreciate the excellent opposition and good ideas that Robin Adams contributed.”

Sundberg had 67 percent of the vote for Position 3 on the council, while Adams had picked up 32 percent.

A total of 374 ballots have been counted in Langley’s two precincts in the race. Sundberg has a 28-vote lead, and leads Adams 251-123.

Sundberg was a slight favorite in the race, having emerged as the front-runner in the three-way Primary Election contest for the council seat. He spent Election Night celebrating with supporters at Prima Bistro in Langley.

His reaction when seeing the first vote tally?

“Relief that the campaign looked like it was over, and generally real appreciation that some of these people were expressing confidence that I could contribute to the city council,” Sundberg said.

More ballots will be counted Wednesday afternoon. So far, a total of 22,721 ballots have been tallied countywide, with another 1,400 expected to arrive in the days ahead. Turnout so far is estimated at 48 percent.
