The Island County Chapter of the Back Country Horsemen, a neighbor and a couple of trail users tackled a multitude of tumbled trees, broken branches and tangles of brush after storms of soil soaking rains and destructive winds ravaged Putney Woods. It took several days of work parties to clear the Putney Woods Trails.

The volunteers logged more than 14 hours of chainsaw work and 34 hours of log moving, raking, sawing with handsaws and branch cutting.

The volunteers trudged through mire and muck while hauling heavy tools in an effort to locate blocked trails and tackle massive fallen trees.

The Island County Chapter of the Back Country Horsemen members included chainsaw experts Jim Chadwick, Tim Keohane, Jerry Lloyd and Walt Werner and ground work crew consisting of Dianne Bolton, Diane Delmonte, Diana Putney, Emily Brink and Mary Casey. Putney Wood’s neighbor Fredrick Bryan lent a helpful hand and trail walkers Bridgett and Albert Foster cheerfully jumped in to contribute to the task.
