Teams wanted for Bowl for Kid’s Sake

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Island County is looking for bowling teams to participate in the 13th annual Bowl For Kids’ Sake in May.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Island County is looking for bowling teams to participate in the 13th annual Bowl For Kids’ Sake in May.

In past years, the agency held two fundraising bowling events in Oak Harbor and in Freeland. With the closure of the Freeland bowling alley, there was only one event. But this year the nonprofit is back with two bowling days. On May 7, teams will bowl at Oak Bowl in Oak Harbor and on May 14, teams will gather at Ebey Bowl in Coupeville. Both events will contribute to the entire mentoring program, including the South Whidbey Big Brothers Big Sisters.

This is how it works: A team captain puts together a team of five bowlers, and each team is encouraged to raise $100 or more for the organization. The team then bowls against other teams on either May 7 or May 14. Bowlers enjoy free pizza and beverages, and play to win raffle and door prizes — all while helping Big Brothers Big Sisters match kids and caring adults.

The Bowl For Kids’ Sake campaign is one of the nonprofit’s largest annual fundraisers for its mentoring programs. Call 360-279-0644 or e-mail bbbs@whidbey.net with questions or to register a team. Visit www.bbbsislandcounty.org for more information and updates.
