Tearing up the base paths

Fastpitch shuts out two more

Like Teflon to opposing fastpitch teams, the South Whidbey High School girls blanked two more teams in the past week to move to 15-0 on the season.

Extending their streak of shutouts to 15, the Falcons hammered Blaine 13-0 Friday at home, then went on the road Monday to put Meridian in its place for the second time this season, 3-0.

Friday’s home game was a treat for dozens of fans who came out for a sunny afternoon ball game. After going three-and-out in the first inning, South Whidbey took ownership of the batter’s box, hammering 10 runs in the second. After loading the bases, the first South Whidbey run scored on a Jenna Dunsmore sacrifice fly. Then, the Falcons started a two-out rally, sparked by a Teah Wanamaker hit that scored Kelsey Broderick. Junior Carrie Anderson then then cleared two more off the bases with a triple, and came home herself on a Becky Gabelein single. Also scoring in the inning were Carolann Lubach, Bronwyn Russell, and Danielle Burton.

The Falcons scored three more in the third inning on a Christie Robinson triple.

Robinson did double duty in the game, keeping her perfect record on the mound in tact, throwing a two-hit shutout.

In Monday’s game, Robinson threw her third no-hitter of the season. Scoring for the team were Dunsmore in the second on an Anderson RBI, Burton in the sixth on an Alea Robertson double, and Russell on a Robinson hit.

Thus far this season, the Falcons have scored 100 runs and allowed none.
