Thanksgiving help sought

Volunteers are needed to help out with this year’s Tom Arhontas Mobile Turkey Unit, which delivered 150 dinners to shut-ins last year, and is expecting more than 200 this year.

Between 10 a.m. and noon on Thanksgiving Day each year, the turkey brigade will drop off a complete holiday meal to shut-ins and others in need at no cost, relying solely on donations from the South Whidbey community.

“We start cooking at 5 a.m. at the Eagles Aerie in Freeland and don’t stop till the job is done,” said volunteer Joan Smith. “But we could use more pumpkin pies.”

To volunteer or apply for a dinner, call Smith at 579-4009 or Janice Martinovic at 321-4692.
