The Dog is barking for help. Dog House Tavern owner Wendy Jacobs posted a desperate plea to save Langley’s historic tavern on craigslist this week.

In the online ad, Jacobs said she is looking for an investor to step in and help her pay the mortgage payment for the popular Langley landmark and her South End home, as well.

Her husband Pete Jacobs, who was the heart and soul of the Dog House, died unexpectedly two years ago. After his death, the tavern began to struggle.

The 1908 building is a historic landmark and Langleyites have long talked about protecting it from being torn down. Concern about the future of the building led to the recent formation of a historic preservation board in Langley.

Details are still sketchy, but the online ad follows weeks of over-the-back-fence talk that the tavern was facing financial troubles.

Jacobs could not be reached for comment this week.

The value of the building is estimated at roughly $1.4 million, according to the online ad, and the Dog House has been on the market for years.

In the ad, Jacobs said she is willing to consider many forms of financial help.

“Need investor. Balloon payment due in June $290,000. Will consider partner options, loan options, developer options,” the ad said. “My personal home in same predicament. Worth around 450K, mortgage $290,000,

$2,000 per month.”

In the ad, Jacobs indicated she has several interested parties who want to invest in the tavern, but time to negotiate a deal is ticking away.

She closes the ad with, “The town does not want it to go away! Need a miracle!”
