The Island County Sheriff’s Office today released a recording of what detectives believe was a phony 9-1-1 call used as a diversionary tactic in Monday’s Clinton bank robbery.

In the recording, a man’s voice reports the shooting of a woman in the area of Brainers Road. Police say it appears to have been a ruse, as the robber hit Wells Fargo while officers were responding to the bogus emergency.

“We were up there looking and a few minutes later the bank robbery occurred,” said Detective Ed Wallace, spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

Anyone who recognizes the voice should contact the Island County Sheriff’s Office via the ICOM dispatch center at 360-679-9567.
