Transition Whidbey Potlucks with a Purpose! will meet from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4 at Bayview Community Hall.

The topic is “Facilitating the Paradigm Shift of the New Consumer.”

Organizers of the meeting say consumerism during transition is about going beyond “buying green” or making “good” purchases for the environment. It needs to go deeper. How can one become the new consumer?

A lively discussion is planned about what is a new consumer inspired by the work of Charles Eisenstein. What do we need to revitalize our local economy while advocating Transition Whidbey ideals? The current economic crisis is the perfect storm for the emergence of a new consumer. What steps must be taken?

The potluck begins at 5:30 p.m. Guests should bring a potluck dish to share that serves four to six, plus your own utensils and dinnerware to this evening of community connection and networking.

The program and discussion is from 6 to 8 p.m.  The suggested donation $5; more if you can, less if you can’t.

Potlucks with a Purpose bring the community together on the first Wednesday of each month to share good food, fun and conversation plus excellent programs and information about sustainability.
