Trio of workshops to cover rest of Langley’s comprehensive plan update

City Hall needs more time to cover all the topics included in its comprehensive plan update, Langley Planner Brigid Reynolds confirmed this week.

Following a June 2 meeting on transportation, three more workshops have been scheduled for June 13, 16 and 23 and will include parks and open space, followed by utilities and capital improvements. Reynolds said the city council has already covered land use, sustainability and housing in five previous workshops held in May.

The workshops will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the council chambers and end around 5:30 or 6 p.m.

The council opted to push back its deadline for completion of the comprehensive plan to July 31, after it was originally set for June 30. A pair of lengthy workshops curbed progress early on in the process, after the council allowed the public ample opportunity to weigh in.

The rules for public comment have changed since, as the public can voice their thoughts at the end of meetings. The change has allowed the workshops to run smoother and cover more topics, Reynolds said.

“It’s just a lot of stuff to go through so it allowed council to continue their flow of discussion,” she said.

Reynolds is set to give a presentation on changes in land use for the city at the council’s next meeting at 5:30 p.m. on June 6.

The meeting also includes a public hearing on sewer rates. Step-up rates over the next six years will go toward recommended maintenance, capital infrastructure improvements and sustainable future management, according to a brochure on the city’s website.
