Two car crashes within a quarter-mile of each other on Highway 525 on South Whidbey have brought traffic to a crawl.
The first accident occurred just before 4 p.m. when an older model Chevy Suburban collided with a Toyota SUV near the Island County transfer station at Kramer Road.
No one was hurt in the crash, but it was followed by another accident just south on the highway at Crawford Road near the House of Prayer.
In that accident, a Chevy pickup rear-ended a Nissan in the southbound lane.
The driver of the Nissan complained of back pain, was being placed on a back board by emergency crews.
Traffic was jammed up in both directions as emergency personnel and police continued to talk to those involved in the accidents and clear debris from the roadway.
