Gust graduated from LHS in 1931 while younger brother Al graduated in ’36. Gust was the baseball player and said the Langley team was undefeated in 1931 under coach Claypool. Al said he couldn’t hit the roundhouse curve and took the coach’s advice to stick to football. Gust has been one of Clinton’s best known citizens for decades, while Al left the island for Alaska and, later, Monroe, where he owned Monroe Hardware for 20 years. Their main attraction at Saturday’s playoff game was Gust’s great-granddaughter, Shannon Brown, who plays for the Falcons and had an outstanding day with the bat. The Falcons advanced to the state tournament this weekend. “
