Two construction workers suffered serious injuries Thursday when their boom lift, sometimes called a cherry picker, fell over on Saratoga Road.

One man was airlifted to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center, the other to Whidbey General Hospital. Both had multiple traumatic injuries, said Fire District 3 Deputy Chief Jon Beck.

“They were about 20 feet off the ground when the lift hit a soft spot and toppled over,” Beck said. “The actual fall was about 35 feet.”

The boom lift has a bucket designed for a person to stand in and work from. Whether the bucket was overloaded with two men is unknown.
