The two Apex Roofing workers from Oak Harbor who suffered injuries in a forklift accident were released from the hospital today, according to a company spokeswoman.

The men were working on the roof of a house under construction on Saratoga Road near Langley when the accident occurred Thursday. The pair were reportedly standing on a wooden platform attached to the prongs of the forklift when they fell.

“They were about 20 feet off the ground when the lift hit a soft spot and toppled over,” said Fire District 3 Deputy Chief Jon Beck. “The actual arc of the fall was about 35 feet. We provided initial response and got them to the hospitals as quickly as possible.”

One man was airlifted to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center, the other initially to Whidbey General Hospital, but the second was also later sent to Harborview.

Apex Roofing spokeswoman Cindy Rogers said both men were released on Friday.

“One had an orbital fracture and a broken nose, the other an open head wound,” she said.

“I thought it was going to be much worse and we’re all extremely glad to hear they’re headed back.”
