Veteran Resource Center to host open house, share information

The Whidbey Veterans Resource Center is inviting veterans and families to a resources and information open house from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 28 at the American Legion Post 141 on 14096 State Route 525, Bayview. Presentations will provide information on no-cost burial or internment for veterans and spouses at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent; employment programs for local veterans; connecting with small businesses employing veterans; Opportunity Council assistance programs; Island County Veterans Assistance Resources; VA benefits for veterans and eligible spouses; and VA healthcare enrollment and services.

A fundraiser for the Veterans of Foreign Wars is also scheduled for Saturday, July 30 at Maple Ridge on 1767 Alliance Avenue in Freeland.

The fundraiser is a Italian dinner buffet from 6-8 p.m. in the main dining room. The cost is $10 per person and there is limited seating. Organizers are urging people to reserve a spot early by calling 360-331-1303.
