Andy Nielsen, an Oak Harbor resident, won a 1949 Ford tractor from a raffle to benefit Good Cheer.

The tractor, donated to Good Cheer Food Bank by Patrick and Karen Scott, is valued at $3,900.

The Scotts had the tractor for a long time and didn’t want to just sell it, they wanted to do something good and found a unique opportunity by donating it to Good Cheer, said Shawn Nowlin, the organization’s community outreach coordinator.

The Scotts donated the tractor because they saw a need in the community, Nowlin said.

Good Cheer sold 1,200 tickets for the chance to win the coveted tractor and raised close to $4,000, Nowlin said.

Tickets were sold for $3 each, or two tickets for $5. The winner was drawn from a raffle during the Empty Bowl Soup Night on Oct. 20.

The money raised will go toward Good Cheer’s mission of feeding people in need.

Nowlin said the raffle brought out the farmer in everybody — even people who don’t have land.
