Virtual meeting on affordable housing set

The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25.

A Langley committee dedicated to supporting affordable housing will be discussing the issue at an online meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 25.

The city’s Affordable Housing Working Group will be leading the first of two meetings on the timely subject.

The ad-hoc committee consists of two members from the city’s Planning Advisory Board, two Langley residents with experience in affordable housing and the city’s director of community planning, Brigid Reynolds.

The sub-committee began meeting in February 2021 to examine the current and anticipated shortage of affordable housing, not only in Langley but throughout South Whidbey.

Tuesday’s event will focus on understanding the range of needs for affordable housing and will prioritize categories of need that are consistent with the Langley Comprehensive Plan goals and policies.

Along with the committee’s volunteer members, elected city officials will also be available to receive public input.

Space at the meeting is limited, and attendees must register in advance at https://tinyurl.com/langleyaffordablehousing. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.

Rhonda Salerno, a member of the Planning Advisory Board and of the Affordable Housing Working Group, said 50 people have already signed up for the online event.

“We’ve been working hard on this,” she said.

A second meeting will be held this fall that will focus on affordable housing solutions.
