Island County is seeking 100 volunteers for its annual homelessness count on Jan. 28.

The “point-in-time” count, mandated by state and federal law, tallies the county’s homeless population on one randomly selected day and is used to formulate homelessness policies, explained Joanne Pelant, count coordinator and the county’s housing resources coordinator.

The event includes an open house in the morning and then the count itself, which may involve riding a bus or going out on foot, depending on the region.

A training session will be held the week before.

Interested volunteers of any age should contact Pelant at 360-678-7962.
