Weather didn’t keep ‘Little’ hunters away

A hardy group of 16 Little Brothers and Sisters teamed up with their Big Brothers and Sisters for some egg-citement at South Whidbey Community Park this past week.

The “Littles” and their “Bigs” braved a cold and rainy day to hunt Easter eggs at South Whidbey Community Park on Saturday, April 16. Parents and friends joined to watch the scramble.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Island County is a mentoring agency that matches youths with volunteers from the community. The hunt brought together the growing family of matches ranging from those who have been together for six years or more to a match that was just introduced the day of the Easter egg hunt.

More “Bigs” are always needed to match with the “Littles.”  This is a great opportunity for young and old adults to support the growth of a young person as well as to have fun. High school students can serve in the BBBS school-based program.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is also enrolling “Littles” at the moment.

Those interested can contact Michaela Marx Wheatley, South Whidbey site director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Island County, by e-mail at mwheatley@sw.wednet.edu or call 221-6808, ext. 5417.
