MoveOn Whidbey is organizing two rallies on Whidbey Island on Saturday to support the Occupy Wall Street movement.

The first rally is 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 5 at the Clinton Ferry Terminal, and it will be followed by a second demonstration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 20 and Main Street in Coupeville.

The national theme is “Make Them Pay,” and the local message is “Move Your Money” to local banks and credit unions.

“We on Whidbey share the national concern for the growing inequality of wealth in our country and the recklessness of the banking industry,” said Carolyn Tamler, the council organizer for MoveOn Whidbey. “Moving our checking and savings accounts, and our mortgages, from too-big-to-fail banks to smaller financial institutions helps keep local money in local communities.”

Islanders are welcome to participate in the rallies, she added.

“People can make their own signs or simply join others standing in solidarity,” Tamler said.
