Fifteen-year-old Gloria Ferry-Brennan will perform a solo of the first movement of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto on Sunday, Feb. 26 at Benaroya Hall in Seattle with the Seattle Youth Symphony.

Ferry-Brennan also won the chance to travel to Washington, D.C. on March 21 to compete in the Johansen International Competition for young string players ages 13-17. She was one of 12 violinists selected to compete in the semifinals and is required to play the entire Beethoven Violin Concerto, Poulenc Violin and Piano Sonata, Bach’s Partita No. 3, Szymanowski Nocturne and Tarantella, and a new work commissioned for the competition. The competition is held once every three years and includes prizes of $66,000 in cash awards, plus performance opportunities that may include a Winners’ Recital at the event and solo appearances with an orchestra.

In addition to these performances, Ferry-Brennan will travel to Maine to play on National Public Radio’s “From the Top,”  a program featuring talented students, later this month. Her performance will be broadcast on NPR in March.
