Carla Jolley of South Whidbey was named the 2009 McCorkle Lecturer at the Puget Sound Chapter of Oncology Nursing Society’s Annual Regional Symposium, held in SeaTac in March. Jolley is an oncology nurse at Whidbey General Hospital.
The award is given each year to a past or present chapter member in recognition of his or her significant contribution to cancer nursing, high standards of practice, and holistic approach to patients and families across various settings.
Jolley’s topic was “Taming the Dragon: Caring for the Patient with Advanced Cancer.”
Her co-workers describe Jolley as being energetic and passionate about her work with palliative care, and a true mentor.
The McCorkle Lecture was developed in recognition of and gratitude to Dr. Ruth McCorkle, who played a key role in developing both the Regional Oncology Nurses Society and the advancement of the Puget Sound chapter. The lecture is a regular feature of the annual symposium.
