The horse gamers season kicked off with a great turnout and keen competition at the Island County Fairgrounds in Langley recently.

The horse gamers season kicked off with a great turnout and keen competition at the Island County Fairgrounds in Langley recently.

Seventy-three riders from on and off-island met at the fairgrounds for a full day of events on March 7. Prizes were awarded to the top five competitors in each age group. Top finishers included Cameron Dahl, first, and Nadine Kinski, second, in the Pee Wee age group; Erin Damon, first, Kacie Hanson, second, Shelby Sterbenz, third, Sadie Travis, fourth and Krimson Rector, fifth, in the Junior age group; Amanda Mosler, first, Kate Jack, second, Molly Rawls, third, Lexi Blanchette, fourth and Jessie Hesslegrave, fifth, in the Intermediate age group; Lindsey VanWetter, first, Bret Robinson, second, Denise Waterman, third, Julia DeMartini, fourth and Chelsea McHugh, fifth in the Senior age group; Chylene Grgich, first, Sonya Peterson, second, Walt Werner, third, Tim DeMartini, fourth and Cliff Hagglund, fifth in the Super Senior age group.

Opening day included events in keg, international flags, key, and the polo turn barrels team: bi-wrangle.
