A woman is accused of “keying” several cars in Langley on Oct. 1 and then fleeing from police, according to court documents.

Suzanne L. Eichner, a 54-year-old Clinton resident, appeared in Island County Superior Court Oct. 4. The judge found probable cause existed to believe Eichner committed the crimes of attempting to elude a pursing police vehicle, resisting arrest and three counts of malicious mischief in the second degree.

The judge ordered her held on $5,000 bail but also ruled that she needs to be evaluated by a mental health professional before being released.

A report by a deputy with the Island County Sheriff’s Office states that Eichner used her keys to damage the paintwork of three cars in a parking lot on Second Street in Langley.

The report indicates that the owners of the cars were strangers to Eichner. She randomly started yelling and making rude statements to people prior to the acts of vandalism, reports indicate.

A deputy was able to identify Eichner from a video clip taken by a witness, the report states. She called the emergency dispatch center from a payphone and went into Langley City Hall, where she demanded to see an officer. She left in “a fit,” a deputy wrote.

Soon afterward, Police Chief Tavier Wasser found Eichner sitting in her parked car. She rolled up the window, turned away from Wasser and refused to respond to him. She eventually turned on the car, backed up and drove away, even though the chief told her she was not free to leave and was under arrest, he wrote in his report.

Eichner laughed, told the chief “I’m under arrest, huh” and drove north on Anthes Avenue.

The chief followed Eichner and was able to get in front of her Jeep. He walked into the road and ordered her to stop, but she drove toward him and he got out out of the way, the report states.

Wasser pursued Eichner in his patrol car and tried to get her to stop, but she continued on. He stopped pursuing her after leaving the city limits.

A detective who happened to be in the area followed Eichner’s vehicle until she pulled into the lot at the Greenbank Store. After several deputies converged and blocked her in, she returned to her vehicle and locked the door, a report states.

Eichner unsuccessfully tried to drive through a split rail fence and then tried to flee on foot, but was arrested, the report states.

Eichner allegedly caused between $2,400 and $4,500 of damage to the cars, county documents indicate.
