A power line leading to a house in the Fox Spit Road area west of Langley suddenly broke on a quiet evening this past week, falling to the ground in a shower of sparks and disrupting the dinner of the family inside, fire officials said.

“There wasn’t a tree around it,” Island County Fire District 3 Deputy Chief Jon Beck said Tuesday. “It must have frayed or deteriorated or something. It was unusual.”

The incident occurred about 8:30 p.m. Friday at a house on East Point Drive, Beck said. He said the wire broke about three feet from the house, but caused no damage or injuries.

A Puget Sound Energy crew repaired the wire a short time later, Beck said.

He said the incident was the highlight of an otherwise quiet weekend for the fire department.

“There was only one medical call on Sunday,” Beck said. “That’s being really quiet.”
