Contest winners met at a reception at the Coupeville Library recently to receive their awards for the Celebrate Writing! Student Writing Contest.

The contest is a partnership between the Whidbey Island Writers Association and Sno-Isle Libraries.

More than 70 entries for fiction and poetry from students in grades three through 12 were received for this year’s contest and were judged by members of the Whidbey Island Writers Association, who provided critiques of the work.

Prize money was donated by all five Island Friends of the Library groups.  Other prizes were donated by local businesses, including Paint Your World, Honeymoon Bay Coffee, Wind & Tide Bookshop and Popsies.

Special guest South Whidbey young adult author Amber Kizer spoke to students about writing at the reception. Organizers of the contest included Kelly Hall of Home Connections, Anne Murphy of Sno-Isle Libraries, along with support from Dot Read of the writers association.
