Angus Buchanan

Angus Buchanan, founder of Buchanan Automation, one of the leading pneumatics and hydraulics distributors in North America, was born in London on March 26, 1925 as the middle child of Angus and Olga Buchanan.

A family of distinction, Angus’ father was a world-renowned explorer, scientist and author.

As a young man Angus lost his right arm in a factory accident aiding his country during World War II. He survived the ordeal after having spent several months in a coma. In what would become his trademark style of persistence and determination backed by a keen mind Angus never allowed the loss hold him back from doing the activities he enjoyed. He not only participated in, but went on to excel, in the areas of mountaineering, skiing and sailing.

At the age of 21, Angus came to the United States with only a few hundred dollars in his possession. He would go on to live what many believe to be the epitome of the American Dream; starting and running his own successful business and raising three beautiful children with his first wife Jean on Lake Sammamish.

The past 26 years were spent with his wife Patricia and their combined family.

Never sedentary he spent much of his time doing the things he loved; tinkering in his shop, running his tractor, helping his community, having lunch with friends, and working on his daily crossword puzzle while enjoying a glass of wine.

Angus Buchanan leaves behind a legacy of achievement both personal and professional attained through the strength of his mind and body. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. A Scottish immigrant. A success story. He will be missed by all that knew him. Rest in Peace.

Angus Buchanan (born March 26, 1925, and passing Sept. 18, 2010) is survived by his wife Patricia Buchanan; sister Ann Buchanan (sister Sheila Zboralsky deceased); his children Wendy Best (husband Rich Best), Jennifer Lervold (husband Ron) and Colin Buchanan; and grandchildren Logan, Bria, Cameron, and Brendan Best, and Jeremy and Ryan Lervold; step-children Donnie Sakaida (wife Nicole Sakaida) and Akemi DeGuzman (husband Pedro DeGuzman); and granddaughter Naomi DeGuzman.
