Anna Smiley

Anna M. Smiley, 86, died of cancer on Oct. 29, 2011 in Rochester, Wash.

She was born on July 10, 1925 in Austin, Wash. to Beda and John Ohm.

She was a graduate of Langley High School.

She worked in civil service and was a farmer and homemaker since 1961. She lived on Whidbey Island, Tukwilla, Renton and Brownsmead, Ore. from 1968 to June 2011 before moving to Rochester.

Anna was a member of the Grange, volunteered at the Browsmead Corn Feed for many years, as well as the Home Extension and TOPS of Warrenton. She loved butterflies, making jam, canning vegetables, spending time with family and friends, and raising Yorkie dogs. Anna also loved crafts, writing letters and cards.

She is survived by her husband Stephen Smiley, Rochester; daughter and sons-in-law Dorene and Randy Short of Oakville, Caryn and Rick Miletich of Vernon, British Columbia, and son and daughter-in-law Greg (Toby) and Debi Smiley of Clatskanie, Ore.; sisters Elsie Ball of Seattle and Emma Endicot of Freeland; brother and sister-in-law John and Ruth Ohm of Redmond; grandchildren Adam Surface, Mandy Johnson, Olga Miletich, Beda Brown and Mathew Miletich; and six great-grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, John and Beda Ohm, and her brother, Elmer Ohm.

A public memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19 at First Lutheran Church, 725 33rd St., Astoria, Ore. Pastor Ron McCallum will be the officiating minister.

A private gravesite service officiated by Pastor Jim Lindus will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20 at Bayview Cemetery on Whidbey Island.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Lutheran Church, Astoria, Ore. in memory of Anna Smiley.
