Arnold William Jarvimaki, 85, passed away on Aug. 4, 2006 in Coupeville.

He was born in Shell Lake Township, Minn. on Dec. 26, 1920 to Eino and Anna (Longfors) Jarvimaki. He was the oldest of five children and he grew up learning to speak both Finnish and English languages. He was a worker in the production of “Copper for Victory” at the Anaconda Copper Mining Company in Butte, Mont. and served in the Army as an infantryman where he was awarded a bronze medal for good conduct.

Arnold worked in heavy construction and was a licensed powderman. He belonged to Local Union 440 – Street Pavers, Sewer, Watermain and Tunnel Workers for 55 years.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards and he always had a joke or funny story to share. He was an all-around good guy and will sadly be missed by family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Leslie, son Jeffrey and grand-dog Katie. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mildred (Millie) of Coupeville; daughter Linda Jarvimaki of Seattle; sister Agnes Arkle of Seattle; sister Anelma Meeks of Seattle; and brother Milton Jarvimaki of Clinton; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Clinton. Friends and family will be invited to share stories and memories of Arnold during the service. Reception will be held at the family home in Clinton immediately following the service.
