Betty Jane Schmitz

Betty Jane Schmitz, 74, died May 19, 2003, at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.

She was born March 12, 1929, in Carrington, N.D., to Roland and Thelma Bollman. She was raised in Wenatchee and Seattle. She graduated from Ballard High School in Seattle and attended Washington State University. She lived on Whidbey Island for the past 12 years.

She had worked in the dental and banking fields. Prior to a stroke, she commuted from Freeland to her favorite job, at Ben Bridge Jewelers in Seattle. She enjoyed making raspberry jam and knitted felt hats.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Schmitz, in 1991, and by her parents.

She is survived by a daughter, Sue Knight, and her husband, Brent, of Wenatchee; two sons, Grant Larsen and his wife, Marci, of Port Orchard and Kurt Larsen of Vancouver, B.C.; a stepson, Mark Schmitz, and his wife, Elaine, of Seattle; and five grandchildren, Alexander, Ty and Addie Knight and Erin and Lisa Schmitz.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Freeland. Memorials may be made to The River Academy, P.O. Box 4485, Wenatchee, WA 98807.
