Byron Wesley Mills: December, 23, 1949 – February, 3, 2026

Byron Wesley Mills “everyone knew him as Barney” passed away, Feb. 3, 2026 surrounded by his family, after a valiant battle with Cancer. Barney was Born Dec. 23, 1949 in Coupeville, and was a lifelong resident of south Whidbey. He spent the majority of his working years at Whidbey Telecom. He loved his job and truly enjoyed the people he worked with. Most of South Whidbey knew Barney, for his knowledge, infectious smile, and his truly positive take on life. He will be sorely missed, by his family and all those that knew him. He was a avid hunter and loved to fish. He shared his knowledge as the Hunter education instructor, for many years. He truly loved the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Ellen, his brother Carl, his sister Barbara, and his daughter-in-law Jonie. He is survived by his loving wife DeAnn, his children Corey, Kristina, and his stepdaughter Kelsey, his brothers: John, Charles (Bobbie), Jim (Mary) and sister Margie (Tom) Rehberg, his cherished grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, extended families, and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts. Barney’s legacy of hard work, love of family and appreciation of the outdoors will live on in all who knew him. A celebration of life will be announced at a later time. Rest in peace Barney.
