David Anderson

David Winthrop Anderson, MD passed away peacefully in his own apartment at Horizon House on Feb. 12, 2009 at the age of 84.

He was born in Greeley, Colo. on July 25, 1924, the youngest of three brothers. His mother, Elizabeth, was a school teacher and his father, Earl, a potato broker.

David grew up in Colorado and California, graduated from the University of Southern California, and went on to medical school at the University of Cincinnati.

There he met his beloved wife of over 50 years, Jeanne, who passed away in 2001. They lived in California and Illinois before moving to Washington in

1957 when David joined the Virginia Mason Medical Center.

He was an accomplished orthopedic surgeon at Virginia Mason for 27 years, taught at the University of Washington School of Medicine, and then practiced at the Multispecialty Panel before building a house and retiring to Whidbey Island.

David enjoyed life! He loved to teach, travel, sing and read. His sense of humor, laughter and huge smile were enjoyed by all.

David is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth C. “Libby” Hayward (Charles “Chip”), son David C. Anderson (Linda Cotton), and numerous nieces and nephews. He is greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Horizon House, 900 University St., Seattle, at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 1. Remembrances are suggested to the University of Washington School of Medicine.
