David Steven Glade: February 7, 1940 – March 19, 2022

St. George, UT – On Saturday, March 19, 2022, David Steven Glade, loving and devoted husband and father of seven children and 24 grandchildren, passed away at the age of 82.

To all who knew and loved him, he was known as Steve, Dad or Grandpa. He was born on Feb 7, 1940, in Salt Lake City, UT, to Earl J. Glade, Jr. and Alice Love Beardshall Glade.

He graduated in 1965 from Brigham Young University with a degree in communications and an emphasis in broadcasting, advertising and public relations. At BYU, he was recognized as a top graduating senior by winning the Earl J. Glade award for Radio and TV Communications. He also was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He spent two years as a missionary in the Southern States Mission, serving South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.

After graduating college, on Sept. 9, 1965, he married Dorene Crandall in the Salt Lake City Temple. Steve and Dorene eventually settled in the Shoreline neighborhood of Seattle, WA. They raised seven children together, Kurtis, Matthew, Steffany, Aaron, Richard, Marcus and Kristine.

Steve had a long and decorated career in advertising and broadcasting in the Seattle area before retiring in 2008. Over the course of his career, he owned several businesses, including the Glade Group and Steven Glade Associates. His family, his work, and service to his church and community are what defined him.

He stayed busy and was always in motion. In addition to his work and his church, he spent countless hours coaching and watching his boys play baseball and his girls have success in gymnastics. He coached and sponsored Richmond Little League baseball teams and provided support for the Seattle Gymnastics Academy, where a gym was named in his honor. He also helped direct affairs for the BYU management society and served as the Public Communications Director for the LDS Church for Western Washington. He was a loving and devoted son, husband and father, who prioritized his family far above all else.

He was a man of limitless energy. When not at work, or on the ballfields or gyms, he was at home doing DIY projects around the house or in the yard. His Saturdays were most often filled with baseball games or gymnastics meets, followed by church and community service projects and yardwork, to which his children can attest.

In 2005, he and his wife relocated from Seattle to Oak Harbor, WA on Whidbey Island, where they bought a home with enough space for a big extended family, and a view of the water and Mt. Baker. Steve continued to be involved in church and community service for 15 years in Oak Harbor. There he served on the board of the Rotary Club and was the Chair of the Island District of the Boy Scouts of America. He was also active in his local church as a youth leader, Bishop’s counselor and Stake Patriarch. He and his wife relocated in 2020 to Washington, UT.

He is survived by his wife, Dorene Glade of Washington, Utah; son and daughter-in-law, Kurtis and Britta Glade of Laguna Beach, California; son, Matthew Glade of Kirkland, Washington; daughter and son-in-law, Steffany and James Gleim of Elk Grove, California; son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Corrie Glade of Sammamish, Washington; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Melissa Glade of Rome, New York; son and daughter-in-law, Marcus and Adrianna Glade of Temecula, California; daughter and son-in-law, Kristi and Jake Thulin of Lake Elsinore, California; his sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Brian Williams; Brother, Douglas Glade; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Gary Haroldsen; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Sandra Glade; sister and brother-in-law Kristine and Robert Hobson.
