Diane Light

Diane MacDonald Light, a resident of Clinton, passed quietly on May 22, 2003 in Renton.

Diane was raised in Lake Forest, Ill. She earned a bachelor of architecture degree from Cornell University in 1959 and a master of arts in painting from California State University at Northridge. She held numerous jobs during her career — dedicated mom, community activist, small business owner and secondary school art teacher, then retired to Whidbey Island in 1997.

Diane will be remembered by family and friends as a hard-working, energetic woman with a passion to build and beautify. She actively volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and traveled to almost every continent with Habitat’s Global Village, building homes for those unable to afford simple housing. On Whidbey Island, she was a faithful member of the Ladies of the Beach and proudly circumnavigated the island by foot. Her beachcombing expeditions behind Quincy, her faithful golden retriever, will be missed.

Diane is survived by her children, Bonnie Light and husband Matthew Wyant of Bothell, and Jeff Light and wife Jessica of Sacramento; her sister Marcia MacDonald of Kent; and her three granddaughters, Alexis, Liliana and Vivian Cree, all of Sacramento.

Memorials may be sent to D. Light Memorial, c/o Friends of Beach Watchers, L.E.P., P.O. Box 5000, Coupeville, WA 98239 or D. Light Memorial c/o Gifts from the Heart/Habitat for Humanity, 121 Habitat St., Americus, GA 31709.

A celebration of Diane’s life will be held May 31 at her Possession Beach cabin. For details call Jean at 221-6157 or Pat at 221-8351.
