Dorothy Schlottman

Dorothy Wilmer Schlottman, 85, passed away on Oct. 31, 2011. 

Dotty was born in Chester, Pa. to A. Jessop Wilmer and Dorothy Lamb Wilmer on Nov. 30, 1925. 

Dotty graduated from Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa. in 1947 with a degree in microbiology. She graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem with a master’s degree in bacteriology in 1949. 

Dotty met her future husband, Alfred Schlottman, while attending graduate school.

Dotty and Al were married on June 12, 1951 in Bethlehem. They spent thirty-four years traveling the world with Phillips Petroleum. 

Beginning in 1951, they lived in Washington state, California, Louisiana, Montana, Alaska, Germany, Libya, Trinidad, Venezuela, Oklahoma, Morocco and England. 

In November 1985 Dotty and Al retired and settled on Whidbey Island. 

In addition to being active in the Whidbey PEO, Dotty spent many retirement summers with Al manning fire towers for the U.S. Forest Service in Idaho and Washington.

Dotty and Al celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 12, 2011. 

She is survived by her loving husband, three nephews and their wives, two grand nephews, and three grand nieces. She was a loving wife, aunt and also a friend to all. She will be greatly missed. 

Contributions in Dotty’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Washington. Arrangements were under the care of Visser Funeral Home.
