Evelyn Boyd

With the same honesty and dignity that defined her life, Evelyn (Lundquist) Boyd slipped quietly away on

Feb. 23, 2010, at age 88. Although cancer claimed her life in the end, it could never subdue her lively and generous spirit, nor dim her sharp wit, love of life, fierce independence and absolute integrity.

For more than 30 years, Evelyn has been an active member of the community in the south of Whidbey Island. Many were touched over the years while sharing in the activities she loved, including travel, gardening, the Piecemakers quilting group, the Weavers Guild, the Island Democrats and the Ladies of the Beach. She was an avid rock hound, hiker and cross-country skier, putting the younger folks to shame as she continued her outdoor adventures well into her 80s.

Born in Minneapolis, Minn., Evelyn moved wither family to Seattle in the early 1950s, settling on Queen Anne Hill where she raised her children and devoted an entire career to teaching several generations of second-graders for the Seattle public schools. Her family has fond memories of a life filled with scouts, camping trips, clam digging expeditions, Seafair parades, PTA and family gatherings, all with Evelyn at the helm, organizing, encouraging, inspiring.

The legacy of this strong, inspirational woman is clearly demonstrated by her enduring, tight-knit, extended family. Although preceded in death by her son, Bret, Evelyn is survived by her brother, Les; three children, Karen, Kristi and Dennis; daughter-in-law, Patty, as well as 12 grandchildren and

10 great-grandchildren.

Please join our family in an open house celebration of Evelyn’s life from 1 to

4 p.m. Wednesday, March 3 at Anthony’s in Edmonds.

Remembrances can be made to Providence Hospice of Seattle or Seattle Children’s Home. No flowers please.
