Fred J. Starkweather

Our loving father, Fred Joseph Starkweather, joined his wife Sonya and son Reny in heaven on Aug. 1, 2009.

Fred was born on March 25, 1931 in Seattle. He served three years in the Marine Corps during the Korean War, from 1949–1952, and when he was discharged, he married Sonya Sumner on April 29, 1952.

Fred worked at PACCAR for 30 years, and then in the roofing trade for 10 years until he retired to Whidbey Island in 1990. Fred was a member of many organizations; Marine Corps League, Knights of Columbus, St. Hubert Catholic Church, Jolly Rogers Motorcycle Club and the Holmes Harbor Rod & Gun Club.

Fred had a zest for life. He liked to fish, camp, go to the ocean, shoot and dance. He was a wonderful father, had a great sense of humor, the best laugh and lived every day to the fullest. Fred was affectionately called “The Duffer” and will be sorely missed by all.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife Sonya and son Reny. He is survived by his sons Fred (Jodie) and John (Christy); daughter Sandra (Doug); grandchildren Amber, Becky, Carrie and Kyle; three great-grandchildren; his sisters Barbara and Lori; and brothers Jim and Jack.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12 at St Hubert Catholic Church in Langley, with a Celebration of Life immediately following at the American Legion Club (members and guests are welcome).

Semper Fi forever!
