Gladys M. (Kleven) Gibbs passed away Sept. 27, 2007.
She was born Nov. 25, 1923 in Tioga, N.D. to Norwegian homesteaders Jorgina and Mathias Kleven. She graduated from high school at 16 and headed west with her sister, Maren. She met a handsome sailor, Henry Gibbs at Fort Lawton (now Discovery Park). Henry and Gladys married in 1946 and celebrated 60 years of marriage last fall.
Gladys worked for many years at Carnation Dairy. Gladys and Henry raised their two children in Seattle and also enjoyed being part-time residents of Sunlight Beach.
Gladys was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1964. Her cancer returned in 1994. Gladys was a survivor nonpareil.
Gladys always put others before herself. She loved her life and family. She was delighted to become a grandma 12 years ago.
Gladys is survived by her devoted husband Henry; daughter Lorraine (Bruce); son James; granddaughters Audrey and Helena; twin sister Grace; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Maren and brother Kenneth.
Gladys will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A celebration on Gladys’ life will be held at Luther Memorial Church in Seattle. Private interment will be at Bayview Cemetery.
