Gladys Strang

Gladys Strang went to be with the Lord on Nov. 11, 2008.

She was born Jan. 26, 1905 to Flora and Bunker Eller the third of six siblings; five passed at very young ages. Gladys was very tender, loving and supportive of her parents for the rest of their lives.

Gladys graduated from high school in 1924 at Cottonwood, Idaho and began a long employment with the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company. She received a certificate of retirement from the telephone industry on July 31, 1951. Another certificate was life membership in the Telephone Pioneers of America, New York on Jan. 15, 1957.

Gladys married Bill Strang in 1951 and they moved to Davenport, Iowa. When Gladys married Bill he was selling comptometers. Gladys became the professional who trained the people who bought the comptometers, and she continued that work when they moved to Spokane.

They moved to Whidbey Island in their retirement. Bill was a member of the American Legion and certificates of appreciation were presented to Bill and Gladys for outstanding and dedicated service to South Whidbey Post No. 141.

Gladys was very active in the Federation of Republican Women and has an elegant framed certificate, which reads “Outstanding Woman Award” presented by the Washington Federation of Republican Women that was presented on Oct. 15, 1985.

Gladys spent many years helping at the polls and was a past president of the Federation of Republican Women, serving two separate terms.

Gladys spent her last 12 years as a resident of Your Home on the Harbor and leaves behind a number of friends who loved her dearly.

A memorial will be held at Your Home on the Harbor on Jan. 26 in celebration of Gladys’ 104th birthday.
