Harry Josephson

Harry F. Josephson, 89 ½, passed away on Jan. 6, 2009 at Careage in Coupeville.

He was born June 14, 1919 at his parents’ farm home near Bayview and was joined later by brothers Alver and Leon.

A graduate of Langley High School with the class of 1938, he enjoyed the friendship of these classmates the rest of his life.

He married Nora (whom he met at a Scandinavian Fraternity meeting) on April 5, 1942. They had five children: Norman, Noreen, Dale, Roxann and Joan. Together they farmed Shore Meadows Farm until 1973. Harry also drove a school bus for South Whidbey schools beginning when he was 23 and continuing for 23 years. He also became a carpenter and thoroughly enjoyed building many houses in the area.

Harry was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was also a member of Eastern Star, Masons, Shriners, the Historical Society, the Antique Car Club, First Thursday Club and the Senior Center. He and Nora enjoyed many community dances with their friends at Freeland and Bayview halls. Harry was always one who could be counted on if help was needed anywhere in the community.

Preceeded in death by his older son Norm and youngest daughter Joan, he is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nora; daughters Noreen (Jim) Forck and Roxann (Rich) Cannistra; daughter-in-law Jan Josephson; son Dale (Melissa) Josephson; brother Leon (Ardella) Josephson; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial is being planned for the future at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland, and donations are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, PO Box 97, Freeland, WA 98249 or Shriners Hospital for Children in Portland, 3101 SW Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97239, or a charity of your choice.
