James K. Smith was born Oct. 1, 1958, to Franklin D. and Joanne Smith in Seattle. He passed away Jan. 7, 2007, after a hard struggle with cancer.

He is survived by two daughters, Lisa C. Smith of Clinton, and Stephanie J. Asher of Round Rock, Texas; father Franklin D. Smith of Seattle; brothers Michael and Patrick Hidecker, both of Seattle; loved ones Beverly Kinkade and Terri Gallagher; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Jim moved to Whidbey Island about 30 years ago and loved it here because of the beauty and relaxed atmosphere. He will always be remembered for his strong will and love of music.

He was a wise and devoted father who loved his family and friends wholeheartedly.

He gave all he had and asked nothing in return.

He is survived forever in the hearts and minds of those who love him.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland.
