Jerry Snyder

Jerry Edward Snyder passed away on Aug. 15, 2012 at age 78 in Freeland. Jerry was born to Walter Edward Snyder and Ruth (Price) Snyder April 15, 1934, in Eugene, Ore.

Jerry attended Oregon State in Oregon prior to serving in the United States Army in intelligence for two years.

Jerry met the love of his life, Virginia Faye Senter, at Oregon College of Education, and they married on March 17, 1957.

He then joined the cadet program in the United States Navy and became a naval aviator, going on to serve five tours in Vietnam.

After serving this great nation for over 20 years, Jerry retired on Whidbey Island. He wholeheartedly enjoyed golf, jazz music, fly fishing, skiing, sailing, anything outdoors, cigars and hand-crafted beer.

He is survived by his wife and his three children, Deborah Ann Houchin (Mitch) of Nebraska, Kelley Jo Miles (Lee) of Greenbank, and Steven Edward Snyder (Lisa) of Chattaroy; five grandchildren (Alexander, Steven, Jacob, Nicholas and Grace), his sister Nancy Snyder White, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his first child, Theresa Lynn Snyder, who welcomed him home on a fine and sunny day.

Jerry will be remembered as a loving, lovable, husband, father and friend. He was so much more than what can be explained here. He is and will always be, dearly missed.

A Memorial Service honoring Jerry was held Aug. 23 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Freeland Trinity Lutheran Schrecengost fund.
