John H. Herget

John H. Herget of South Whidbey passed on May 24, 2006.

Born July 7, 1921 and raised in Seattle, John graduated from Roosevelt High School and was a World War II veteran.

He was employed for 32 years by Sears Roebuck & Co. where he and his wife June made many long lasting friendships. They moved to South Whidbey in 1970 and lived happily on Maxwelton Beach for over 25 years.

John had quite an impact on “the beach” and was affectionately referred to as the “Mayor of Maxwelton.” In the mid 1990s he and June left Maxwelton for Eastern Washington, living in the Methow Valley near their son Paul. Then, in 2000 they pulled up stakes again and moved to Issaquah.

With each new move came many new friends and relationships, all a tribute to John’s outgoing and charismatic charm.

John was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Just ask him “Where are the fish?” and you’re in for a long lesson because John always knew!

In addition to the outdoors, John was also a very devoted family man in character and deed. All that knew him would agree.

He is survived by his wife June (they celebrated 58 years of marriage recently); sister Pauline Stith and her husband Bart; son Paul; daughter Barbara; granddaughters Kelly and Sommer, and grandson Jordan.

Special thanks to the staff of Providence Marianwood who gave him so much wonderful care in his last days.

No services are planned as he requested. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

Any remembrances may be made in his name to: Providence Marianwood, 3725 Providence Point Drive SE, Issaquah, WA 98029.
